About

Dr Julia Thompson is an experienced consultant neurologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She has extensive neurological training in both Sydney and the UK, undertaking multiple fellowships and research at Oxford University and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, and through her work as a consultant neurologist at Kings College University Hospital in London. She has interest and expertise in epilepsy, autoimmune neurology, neuroimmunology, headache, as well as practicing in a variety of areas within general neurology.

Dr Thompson works with the Oxford Autoimmune Neurology Group and has published pivotal research in autoimmune epilepsies including LGI1 autoimmune encephalitis, and has ongoing collaborations with the Oxford group.

She is currently undertaking the clinical leadership training through the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) and has undertaken leadership training in the NHS. She is also a clinical lecturer, and has won awards throughout her career for her role in teaching.

Dr Thompson is a member of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Royal College of Physicians (RCP), Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and British Association of Neurologists (ABN). She is a committee member on the Australian and New Zealand headache Society (ANZHS), working with key neurologists in headache to improve patient management, training and access to headache therapies and education. She has membership and completed the board exams with the American interventional Headache Society (AIHS). Dr Thompson is also a member of The Neurohospitalist Society (NHS), International Headache Society (IHS), International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), Movement Disorders Society of Australia and New Zealand (MDSANZ) and others educational societies.
